I'm getting an alert on my managed services portal for one of my clients that is giving me the following warning: Recipient object read from failed validation and will be excluded from the result set. and the details state: Process Microsoft.Exchange.ServiceHost.exe (EMS) (PID=4912). Recipient object CN=SystemMailbox{e0dc1c29-89c3-4034-b678-e6c29d823ed9},CN=Users,DC=bcscontrols,DC=local read from BCSAD.bcscontrols.local failed validation and will be excluded from the result set. Set event logging level for Validation category to Expert to get additional events about each failure.

Now I went to look to see if the system mailbox was even there and when i checked the arbitration mailboxes, I get this:

Name : SystemMailbox{bb558c35-97f1-4cb9-8ff7-d53741dc928c}

Exchange 2010 suddenly stops sending or receiving E-mail.

Starting two days ago I had my first E-mail outtage where E-mail suddenly just stopped flowing, internally or externally. I was able to fix it that day by restarting the server. Come to today, it does the exact same thing this morning, once again fixed by a restart, then about 10 minutes later it occurs again and will not function at all, reboot or no. The E-mail queue shows a large backlog of messages waiting to go through.

Some users can not connect to public folders

Hello all. We have a single on premises Exchange 2013 environment with our primary server hosting CAS, the main user mailboxes, and public folders. I have a second mailbox server that just houses the in-place archive email for users. I have a few users on Outlook 2013 and 2016 that get the following error when trying to access public folders: "Cannot expand the folder. Network problems are preventing connection to Microsoft Exchange". These users can see shared mailboxes, and are otherwise connected their mailboxes on Exchange with no errors. How would you troubleshoot this, or have you seen and fixed this issue before?

Hello,

Let me give some idea about my two node Exchange Server 2016 server setup.

I have two AD+DNS server, AD1 and AD2, AD1 was created first and AD2 joined to AD1. the Schema Master is AD1.

I then got two additional machines for exchange server 2016, EXCH1 and EXCH2, both joined to the domain using the AD1/AD2's administrative privileges (that is when asked for a domain user and password to join the domain, I used the AD1 Administrator user account to add these two exchange servers to domain). Then when these two machines are shown on Active Directory Users and Computers list, I made them member of Enterprise Admin and Schema Admin group from their properties - member of option.

Then I first proceeded with EXCH1, install feature like RSAT-ADDS and other powershell command based features required for exchange server using the local...

Exchange 2013 onsite SPAM

Hi all,

I have an onsite 2013 Exchange box.
Our email is fetched via Pop3Connex from our host, which is a POP mailbox setup.

I'm having issues with SPAM and Exchange & Pop3Connex & the POP host not talking nice together.

I don't want to point my mailbox directly at our Exchange server, for fear of losing mails when we have internet problems, so would prefer to keep the POP host for stability.

How are other guys controlling their spam with onsite Exchange and do you also have external POP hosts or have your mail directed directly to you exchange box?

The main issue i have currently is that the SPAM filter from exchange 2013 is blocking spam, but it does not delete the mails from the POP host (Setup to delete) and then every time it does the mail run, it spams the same emails and then i look at my logs and a single spam email is sitting on...

I'm having a problem configuring outlook 2016 for 1 useraccount, using Exchange 2013.

I can reproduce this issue on multiple machines for this user
On all machines other users work as expected, i cannot find anything what makes this user special compared to other domain users.

OWA works as expected.

When opening outlook 2016, autodiscover configures the account succesfully
After outlook launches, it creates a 0KB .ost file, outlook shuts down with the error (translated from dutch): "Cannot open outlook. The file .ost is not a outlook date file (.ost)"

When changing the outlook settings to not use cache mode, outlook shuts down on startup with the error (translated from dutch): "cannot start microsoft outlook. cannot open the outlook window. the set of folders cannot be opened. The attempt to log on the microsoft exchange has failed"

I am running out of space on my drive where my database currently resides. I created a 2nd database and started moving user mailboxes over to that new database. All is working well however after I move those mailboxes i do not reclaim any space from that initial 1st database. Is there something that i am missing that needs to be done in order to reclaim that space?

Thanks!

Hi guys,

CEO asked me to find out who used the shared mailbox and sent to a customer wrong bank details and after that created a rule that the response goes to a folder that is never checked.

Could anyone help me how I could find out within IIS Logs, Exchange Logs, XWALL Logs - Fortigate Firewall Logs. Who did this?

20.000 € are lost due to this.

I've checked header informations and XWALL Logs and I can confirm that it has been sent out from our Mail Server so it is not hack, surely someone had access.

Please help!

Exchange 2013 DAG Setup Question

Hi,

I am working on configuring our first DAG and i just want to verify a few things and if anyone has any suggesting or tips that would be great.

Background: We have 2 servers (virtual) both running Server 2012 R2 and Exchange 13 SP1 cu13 (latest update). Each server has 2 NIC cards, 1 client facing (10.1.1.xx) and another network (10.10.10.xx) that is used to a management network and we want to push DAG replication traffic to this network. I have created a new file share on our file server called DAG_Data. This server is on our client facing 10.1.1.xx network.

The following are the steps i have found and want to verify:

1- Create a CNO in AD and disable to account. This will be the matching DAG name.
2- Granted "Exchange Trusted Subsystems" and the two Exg13 servers full control to this object.
3- Create the new DAG matching the name to...

Cleaning up after Exchange removal

My environment is stable. Exchange removal occurred successfully and we have not experienced any negative cause for asking this question. I ask because I am a perfectionist, and my AD could do better without legacy Exchange data/metadata, OUs, etc.  I have some experience with Exchange 2003, 2007, 2013(if i recall the years correctly...).  But I need some expert help.

1. Is there anything like an "Un-Forest-prep"? If not, is it safe to just go about deleting legacy objects from ADSI?  If not that either, then what CAN I do?

2. There is an OU named 'Enterprise_Servers in my AD. It is empty. I understand this was from Exchange. Is it safe to delete it?

3. Other suggestions for removing all traces of Exchange from my infrastructure?

Exchange 2007 headaches (looking for help!)

Hey everyone. I apologize in advance because my knowledge of 2007 is minimal. I do have some experience with 2013 in a hybrid configuration with o365. Basically the issue I'm running into is that I need to eventually migrate our environment (I just started a few months ago with this company) to exchange 2013 eventually.

The first issue we're having is that the exchange server has some of its features split to 2 servers.

Server1: Exchange

Server2: Listed in "Get-ExchangeServer" but does not have any roles. Boss believes it to be integral with users getting email on their phones. I am not sure how to check this, but I do know that an exchange variant does exist on the server.

Not quite intertwined in this mess but:

Server3: A 2003 DC we want to get rid of but for some reason exchange 2007 keeps reporting it as the DC it wants to use for both...

Moving Exchange 2013 Install

$

I initially setup Exchange 2013 on a Server 2008 R2 vm. I recently setup a second Exchange 2013 install on a Server 2012 R2 vm. My end goal is to get rid of the 2008 R2 server and deploy another 2012 R2 vm with DAG. I have a few questions on where to go from here.

  1. How do I decommission the 2008 R2 vm?
  2. Do I need to add both servers into a DAG to start with and then remove the 2008 R2?
  3. Will all of the tweaks I have made automatically populate?

I would really appreciate some step by step of some sort.

Hello all,

Microsoft Exchange 2010: Open Relay

I have a challenge with my Exchange 2010 server. I believe that my receive connectors are configured as they should be, full details are as follows:

I have two (2) receive connectors setup, the "default " for local email delivery and "relay" for external email receipt.

Under Permission Groups on the "default connector", Exchange users, servers, & Legacy Exchange Servers checked (enabled).

Under Permission Groups on the "relay connector", only Anonymous users checked (enabled).

When I run test from mxtoolbox.com, all tests pass except Open relay test where it indicates that my server "May be an Open Relay", and when I do attempt a manual SMTP session from outside our network, I am able to relay email through the server.

Note: When I disable "Anonymous users" under the "relay connector" the spam being relayed through my server is contained....

Exchange 2007 NDR

Hello all,

I am working with Exchange 2007 and need some NDR help. We have a user who has left the organization and we want to create an NDR specifically for this email address. We have a small group of internal users who will be allowed to send emails to this address, but all others should get the message there is someone else who will handle these responsibilities. I was able to restrict the account to allow the small number of users. The problem I have is there is a large, easily readable message that says "your message was not deliver because......." and below that message in the minutiae is the message about who to contact. I want the main message to read about the new contact person. Does anyone know how to do that, while leaving all other NDR's as is? I hope i am explaining this correctly.
