Exchange mailbox recovery on old DB

$

I'm working with exchange 2010. We only use the server for reference to old emails. Over the course of the last 5 years we have migrated to a different servers and at one point started a clean database due to errors on the machine.

We have a user that needs access to an old email, that he deleted off of the most current database.

Is there anyway to access the old exchange database mailbox after a mailbox move has been done. If i can get to the mailbox I can pull the information.  I have tried to do Get-Mailbox command on the old database, but I only get one mailbox that was accidentally left running on it, but there is no way that the box is over 300gb, which leads me to believe that the old boxes are still remaining on the DB.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

Email disappears off into the ether after a few seconds (on phone and PC).

Odd little issue here. User requests password reset email from a site. Email is send and DOES show up on the PC and his smartphone, but then just disappears (not deleted, not sent to junk) after about 3 seconds! This user has no rules in his Outlook whatsoever.

Could there be something on the mail server (in house Exchange 2007) causing this? Outlook version is also 2007. The password reset is coming from an electricity company, so not super easy to replicate with a different account (plus I'd rather our people use their personal email for this, but this guy is one of our owners). So far all I've tried is resetting his "Current View" back to default in Outlook. Thanks!

Time zone issue

I have an issue with a client that upgraded Mac with Office365 for mac. When Office365 was installed the timezone was not correct and the exchange calendar were not correct. I changed the timezone to local time and all seemed ok with the calendar except when a calender is created from iPhone now it is 20 hours different. Time Zone on iphone is also local. what could be causing the issue?

exchange cached mode mailbox too big

I'm using hosted exchange mail server, and my mailbox is too big, about 20 GB.
It's slowing down my outlook a lot.

Once in awhile, I move old emails from exchange into a offline PST file, I do this using outlook, but the process is very cumbersome and slow.

Are there any software I can install, that can help me archive my exchange emails into a offline PST archive on a regular basis.

Thanks !

I have a issue that after I restart my Exchange Server 2013 (Windows 2012 R2 fully patched with the latest CU for Exchange) that I had to start the Microsoft Exchange Transport services manually. It is set to automatically and when I go to the Event Viewer I see the following errors :

The Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Transport Delivery service failed to start due to the following error: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. Event ID 7000

and the second error :

A timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for the Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Transport Delivery service to connect. Event ID 7009

All other services started up correctly. There is more then enough hard-drive space on the server. Running with the following hardware allocations : 4vCPU, 16GB RAM 50 email users.

Any advice?

Transport rule with Regular Expressions

Hi, I've tried setting up a transport rule

New-TransportRule -Name "Some Name" -SentTo 'something@something' -RecipientAddressMatchesPatterns '\S\*\d\d' -RejectMessageEnhancedStatusCode

"5.7.1" -RejectMessageReasonText 'Some Reason"

I'm using Regular Expressions to achieve match for any address containing letters and any number between 00-99 (ie. cobalt65@somerthing) but it doesn't seem to do the trick as no messages qualify.

I thought the less is more rule applied, if the rule is too loose it would get more false positives, but seems not a single message was affected.

Any ideas?

2 mailboxes per user on different domain names in Exchange 2013. OWA/Active Sync

$

I am engineering a solution for one of my customers.

They have 2 domain names, one is currently their primary Exchange domain name and every user has a mailbox on this domain.

The second domain name is used for another business entity, and is currently hosted on IMAP, certain users have a mailbox here.

They wish to retain separation of the mailboxes, not sharing an inbox and having the ability to reply from a specific email address.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the only way to do this is:

-Create new user accounts for the additional mailboxes, disable the accounts

-Add full mailbox access for the target user accounts

If I do this, will I be able to add the second mailboxes to peoples phones/give them OWA access?

Is there a better way?

Exchange 2013 Autodiscover picks up @domain ? - GUID not IPv6

$

Wasn't sure if this would be best in Email or Networking Section, but when Outlook Autodiscovers our Exchange 2013 settings, it picks it up as <IPv6 address>@domain instead of the DNS name and I can't figure out why?

Our DNS servers do have IPv4 entries for for the sever name and Autodiscover.

If I ping the server name it returns the IPv4 address.

If I ping Autodiscover it returns the IPv4 address.

Anybody got any suggestions why it might be doing this?

Thanks.

Outlook OWA duplicating RULES

Another head scratcher.. I have a user who created rules for a shared mailbox through OWA (they cannot log in to the mailbox as the account is disabled, they found a way around that.. different story..) and on friday the users reported duplicate emails in their inbox.

I checked the Exchange server and looked at the rules for the shared mailbox and discovered that there were duplicates of each rule. They were all named the same: IE DarkApollo and DarkApollo, so the system created the duplicates, not the user (as it would append (1)) The rule ID strings are different.

The obvious solution is to just axe the rules and have them deal with it, but I am trying to be more civil and allow them to make their job a little easier with the rules.
However, this is now going onday 3.

Unread emails and holiday cover

So it's the height of the holiday season here and our teams are fragmented as a handful of staff are off somewhere nice sunning themselves knowing that some poor colleague is trying desperately to a) work out their email filing system and b) try to decipher which emails are actually 'read' and those that have been read but unmarked.

We have a Hybrid Exchange setup (O365)with Exchange 2013 and use Full Access Permissions with Send As enabled, we 'buddy' up our staff (normally in pairs) to cover whilst others are off and it seems to work well.

The problem that our more organised colleagues are having is that some of our users have hundreds of supposedly 'unread' emails throughout their mailboxes so when they are buddied up with them during holiday times it makes things difficult when it comes to actioning existing emails. One of our staff...

We have a user that is having issues sending and receiving any email from Google Groups. We have confirmed her email is correct and other people are getting the emails from the group. This just started after we upgraded her Office to 2013. Any ideas why it might not be working?

I am using Exchange 2010 with office 2010.  I have a problem with meeting conflicts.  Even thought I've set it to not allow meeting conflicts it keeps happening.  Anybody else have this problem.  I read online that there is no fix for this, but I find that hard to believe.

We recently upgraded from server 2008 to server 2008 R2 on the server that hosts Exchange 2010. Shortly after we noticed that the offline address book wouldn't download, oof doesn't work from outlook (but does from owa) and free/busy doesn't work.

Below is the error that comes up every few seconds in the event viewer:

Hi

I've done this in the past when I managed to archive mailboxes from our former employees into PST file, then deleted the mailbox.

Can you use exchange to pop multiple pop account?

I have never seen this done before. But maybe someone have a better solution for me beside running exchange. I have a client who have multiple 4 pop account from different domain name. I know I can use outlook to pop all 4 of the account into outlook. But I needed a place to centralize my calendar and contact info. So he was thinking that by using exchange he can sync up all his calendar and contact info in one places. But the question is is it possible to use exchange to just populate the 4 pop account to exchange and use their smtp username and password to send out? is this even possible? or setup a relay to send out? please advise if this is possible or if there is a better solution then exchange?

I'm open to anything

thanks

In-House Emali Server & Marketing EMails

$

I've just finished rolling out an in-house mail server for a friend of mine and I am wondering how they should handle their marketing email in the future.  They currently use Constant Contact and email 3-5k addresses as a time.  No cold spamming is done.  These are franchise holders who are expecting such messages for instructions.

My question is, should they continue using a services such as CC or can they push out that many emails from a new server without blasting their server reputation, such as that with senderbase.org?  I've dealt with blacklisting issues for previous companies that I've worked for, generally because of malware but nonetheless, it's can be a pain so I wanted to reach out and see what's recommended.

Hi all, any incite on this?

I have Office 365 Hosted Exchange running on an email address for a client. All Outlook and webmail are synchronizing fine. His Outlook setup has many folders that are in the same "root" folder as the inbox. All are synchronizing fine.

Under the iPhone, we can only see inbox, drafts, sent items and those are working but we cannot see the many folders. I really cannot find any info on this. Ideas?

Thank you!

Hello,

I am in the process up getting an exchange 2010 server up and running. Currently there is no routing group connector and I am unable to send outbound emails from my current 2003 server.

I am hoping to fins somebody that can assist with the connections. This will be paid of course!

My end goal is to have a mailbox (just one, a test mailbox) that is on 2010 send/receive emails to/from exch 2003, and have the organization send and receive emails from the internet. Currently, inbound emails are working fine.

Anybody want a little contract work??

Delete ONLY email for a specific date range in Exchange 2010 Powershell.

Hi all,

Objective: Need to delete email older then 6 months on a user's account.

Command:  Search-Mailbox -identity username -searchquery {(Received:> 01/01/2000 and Received:< 12/31/2014)} -DeleteContent -Force

The Command works and deletes everything created between that date range.

Problem: "Deletes everything created between that date range" I would like to ONLY delete email sent or received within that time range. I ran this for the user and he lost all of his Contacts, Reoccurring Calendar Events, Tasks and Notes that he created from 01/01/200 to 12/31/2014

No retention policies or anything like that please.

Is there a way or a switch I can add to the command to specify that only email needs to be deleted and not everything else for that date range?

Thanks

Email Forwarding - Disable Calendar Invites Being Forwarded

$

Hi guys,

I am hoping someone can help with this issue that is occurring with email forwarding.

So when a user such as a manager leaves the company we set the forwarding on their mailbox to go to their replacement. The issue is that the replacement is then added to all the important meetings and the old manager is removed, but the calendar invite for the replacement and the calendar cancellation for the old manager get forwarded to the replacement so it causes issues with them accepting the invite and also the old manager being removed.

I was wondering if anyone has suggestions on how to prevent this issue. Is it possible to set email forwarding using powershell or something so that it forwards everything BUT the calendar related emails? If that is not possible is there anything else that could be done?

Any help will be much appreciated.
