All users are having the same problem and was hoping to seek advice.

Whenever we try to delete something in OWA this error message appears:

Also, when you mark mail as read it will just stay unread.

If you have any advice, I would be grateful to hear it.

Thanks.

Exchange 2013 - pressure and mails stuck in outbox

After migrating our mailboxes to 2013, running in a VMware VM, with the same resources as our old Exchange 2010 server, a few of our users are experiencing their mails endlessly stuck in the Outlook outbox.

We have around 140 mailboxes, split over 2 mailbox databases. Public Folders are still on the old Ex2010 server as they haven't been migrated yet.

Both VMs have 2 vCPUs and 24GB RAM

Exchange 2010 is on 2008
Exchange 2013 is on 2012 R2

If there are mails stuck in the Outbox and the user closes Outlook without sending, the next time they start Outlook, the mails have vanished.

To workaround this, a user needs to drag the mails back into the Drafts folder, restart Outlook, and send again.

Looking at the SMTPReceive logs, I do see a lot of

452 4.3.1 Insufficient system resources
503 5.5.2 Need mail command

around 10:30 and sometimes 14:00

However...

Can't remove old cert from Exchange 2007 mailbox server

Our third party SSL certificate on our Exchange 2007 mailbox server expires the end of this month. I created a CSR and submitted a certificate renewal to our third party CA, got the new certificate which expires Aug 31, 2016, and imported it to Exchange. I then enabled the IIS role on it (it already had POP and IMAP).

Now I am trying to remove the old certificate that will expire in 2 weeks. I'm getting an error:

Remove-ExchangeCertificate : The internal transport certificate cannot be removed because that would cause the Microsoft Exchange Transport service to stop. To replace the internal transport certificate, create a new certificate. The newcertificate will automatically become the internal transport certificate. You can then remove the existing certificate.

The old cert and the new one are the only ones present. This machine had...

we are using exchange 2013 in our premises (no cloud), but my question is.

when an employee is dismiss from their position the email account gets disable so they don't have access to it anymore, but if I disable it the name and account disappear from my administrative center.

how do I do to bring the account back to the list (enable) and what is a better way for my to take the access from those employees.

my exchange is connected with my DC so the users change password through the DC.

thank you

Exchange Licensing and Mobile Devices

We are in the process of pricing out an Exchange Server and I need to know something about licensing.  Do we need a device CAL for smarthphones and tablets that just pull email using gmail or the built in email apps?  Never messed with Exchange licensing before so I use clarification about how it is done with mobile devices.  Thanks.

Disabling Mail Enabled Security Groups Exchange 2013

Hey everyone,

I have a customer that was just migrated to a new domain and are now running an on-premise 2013 exchange server. We had originally set them up with mail enabled security groups, however due to the complexity of permissions and email groups it will not work and have created standalone disti groups. I have attempted to locate a way to disable the mail feature for these security groups but have only been able to hide the addresses from the GAL so far. Has anyone come across this and have a resolve?

Thanks!!

How do I stop the alerts about an unneeded and expired certificate?

We moved from Exchange 2013 to O365 some time back and the commercial cert we had in Exchange recently expired.

Now every time Outlook is launched users are being presented with two alerts, one for server.domain.org and one for autodiscover.domain.org. Click Yes, No, Screw You, doesn't matter, Outlook still launches ok.

I hate certificates, I just don't "get" them and I sure don't understand all the certificate stores in Windows. If I instruct the users to install the certs in one particular store will it fix the problem? Because installing it with the default settings doesn't take care of it. So which one?

And why is Outlook even looking at my Exchange server when Outlook is going to O365 for email? Should I uninstall the cert from Exchange or would that cause even more issues?

Maybe the bigger question is, should I even maintain the...

Exchange 2010 Free/Busy Polcies - Add Limited Details for Team members

I would like to edit the default Free/Busy policy in my domain to work like the following:

Individual = Owner
Team Members = Can see Limited Details (<-- this is what I want to add)
Other co-workers across the domain = Free/Busy availability only (already have this)

I want Exchange to automatically figure out who is considered team members - like it does in the calendar in outlook.

Any ideas how I can add in this option??

Having troubles getting mutual TLS to work with a remote domain

So I'm working with a remote company that has exchange and we're trying to get mutal TLS to flow between exchange servers.

We use AppRiver as a Spamhost which filters through all email. So far we have send connectors on both Exchange hosts with our respective domain names with Mutal TLS checked off.

Below is a receive log from the remote domain with an email sent to me. The problem is that I'm seeing this in the logs - TlsDomainCapabilities='None'; Status='NoRemoteCertificate'. It seems like the TLS is being stripped off.

What am I missing?

Email to Exchange alias

$

Hi all.  How are email aliases handled by Exchange for incoming mail?  For example, I just emailed one of my users with their main email address and an alias email address in the same "To" field of the one email.  They received only ONE email from me, although it shows them twice in the "To" field.

Does Exchange understand the alias used and just throw out the second copy?  Does it natively do some sort of deduplication on the emails coming in?  This is a single server, and I'm using an external spam filter service, so there isn't a separate Edge Transport Server running any antispam controls.

Nothing is "broken" from a mail-flow standpoint, but I'm curious what is really happening with aliases.

Outlook calendar items visible

We are using Outlook 2007 with Exchange 2010 and noticed that when sharing a calendar as 'reviewer' the other staff can read the subject and location details, however some staff would like to have that info blocked and show free/busy only.

When the permission is set to free/busy, the 'other' user cannot open the calendar at all.

The permission for 'Default' is set to Free/Busy/delete none/Folder Visible. I have also noticed that the 'Anonymous' name element is gone from my calendar sharing (it was not removed deliberately). Perhaps that could have been something that happened from my migration from 2003 to 2010.

Is there a chance I am missing something here?

Any help from the Exchange gurus is greatly appreciated.

Chris

Cannot eliminate SSL2 from Exchange port 25

Guys, help me out as I am seriously losing the will to live. I am aware this has been asked before but this is not IIS related only SMTP and I cannot seem to find any definitive answers.

Our quarterly PCI scan failed last weekend. I spent my vacation week and all of this week trying to sort it to no avail. I have been through SpiceWorks articles, blog articles, Microsoft KBs, and googled til my fingers are bleeding. I am beaten - and this does not happen often.

Details: -

Single box Server 2008 R2 running Exchange 2010. SMTP port 25 is the only open port on the vulnerable IP via a Fortigate firewall. Around November last year I ran the IISCrypto tool to disable SSL3 and all was well. This quarter, the PCI scan has failed on port 25 only with a warning that the server is vulnerable to POODLE which I don't believe is the case.

can you safely block someone from EVER sending email in RTF format?

we have exchange 2013, outlook 2013.

we have this ONE user, who keeps running into problems with some people he emails receiving the winmail.dat file instead of the attachment, these are people outside our system, most recently the two remote users that had this problem had MSN email account, the other has AT&T.

I have fixed it several times, by selecting "never send RTF" for his contacts, and setting outlook to always use HTML format, but this problem keeps coming back with him.

I have read about this power shell command "Set-RemoteDomain -Identity -TNEFEnabled $false "

but I did read where several people ran that powershell command for all remote domains, and then ran into issues with mail getting stuck in the queue, and issues sending meeting requests.

is there another way to tackle this? maybe a GPO?

I have a feeling he must be either...

Exchange 2010 rejecting messages with safe attachments

$

We have a rule in place to block file types that are frequently used to infect unsuspecting users - zip, exe, rar, bat, etc. The specific rule settings are as follows:

If...
Any attachment's file name matches...
.exe or.zip or .rar or .vp or .com or .ws or.7z or .hta or .sys or .bat...

Do the following...
Reject the message and include theexplanation...
Potentially unsafe attachment has been blocked. Your message was not delivered.

The problem is, messages with safe attachment types (.doc, .xls, .pdf) are also being rejected by the Exchange servers, with the reason: #550 5.7.219 Potentially unsafe attachment has been blocked. Your message was not delivered. ##

With the Word and Excel documents, we have users re-save the file, and send it again, and that usually works. However, we can't really do that with PDF's, and several users are...

Outlook 2013 client issue - Connection to Microsoft Exchange is Unavailable

I'm having trouble with my Outlook connection from home. Whenever I attempt to connect the client times out and reports "The connection to Microsoft Exchange in unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action." It has never worked from this computer for this employer, but I was able to use Outlook from this computer with my previous employer.

I've brought this up to my IT group, but since it's my home PC they're not offering me any help beyond confirming that I'm using the correct settings. I thought it might be an issue with my local machine, since I've been able to configure Outlook on my work machine without any issues. I recently upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, and then gone back and done a fresh installation of Windows 10 to make sure all is clean. Alas, still unable to connect after reinstalling...

Migrate from Hosted Exchange to On-Premise Exchange

$

I am looking at a project to migrate from a Hosted Exchange provider to an on-premise Exchange Server. The Provider is using Exchange 2010 (Not Office 365) and our new server is running Exchange Server 2013. I am looking at migrating about 130 mailboxes and was looking at any tools or methods that could possibly assist with migrating mailbox data. I have found several guides online on going from on-premise to hosted, but nothing as far as going backwards. Also, some of the tools i have seen require access to the source server which we will not be able to get. I am also severely limited on what I can purchase for this project. Most of these tools seem to have a cost per mailbox.

Really, if there was something where I can just plug in mailbox credentials and set up for each user, I'd be fine with that also. All of the hosted exchange user...
