Our environment is on prem Exchange 2013.

All user has Outlook 2013.

Exchange Server - Expiring certificate

Hello all,

Would need some help about exchange server and certificate. Today, I’ve found out in ECP that a certificate called as AutdiscoverCert is expiring soon. I am not sure what exact impact it will have to email services we use… I made some research and found the below:

  • We run in-house exchange server 2013 and use Autodiscover
  • On that server, in IIS, the AutdiscoverCert is used when I check binding for defailt page
  • Users are using outlook 2016 or 365
  • the details of cert are below...

-------------------------------------

-------------------------------------

Got few question about what will happen:

  • What will happen when the certificate expires? Will users not be able to get/send emails using Outlook anymore? Or it will be working but they will receive some “warning message” about expired certificate?
  • In ECP, there is an...

so we are in the process of firing up and installign a new exchange 2016 server. WE are not going live with it for production quite yet. we just want to install it and get ready.

from my understanding when we do this, it will create a new SCP connection. and seeing as we are not going live with it. we need to be able to re point back to the the 2010 server, so no one gets the cert alerts.

it is my understanding i have 2 options to do this:

1. deploy the new 2016 server in its own deployment site. which is a pretty complicated process.

2. immedatly after the 2016 server is installed and finished. edit the SCP back to the old server.

id like to do option 2. but i have a few questions / issues.

im following this guide :

so once the 2016 server is...

No Outlook auto configure after exchange disaster recovery

Hi All,

I am testing my backup and DR plans and have found the following setup...

All virtualised on Hyper-V

2 x Server 2008 R2 domain controllers
Exchange 2010 running on Server 2008 R2
Outlook 2013 clients

Using Veeam, I have done a bare metal restore of the two DCs and the mail server VMs to an isolated test network.

All machines restored ok, the two DCs are syncing and appear to be working as normal.

Exchange is running, users can log in using OWA and send and receive internal and external email using a test POP3 connector account and smarthost for external email.

The issue appears to be with outlook, I can set up a new user and mailbox but when I come to configure it in Outlook on a test Win 10 / Outlook 2013 machine, the users name and email is correctly filled in, it shows it has got the exchange settings but after about 5 mins, the...

Open Exchange logs in a viewable format

In the exchange logs folder. There are .log files. When I open it in notepad. You can’t really sort it the proper way.

I downloaded log parser and log parser studio. I tried to open the logs in the studio. Can’t seem to get that right.

My question is. How do you all get the logs easily showing? Are you using log parser studio? Would love to know.

Are you converting each log to csv? If yes, how.

What is the proper way. Or which ways are there?

Thank you.

Exchange Migration Disaster

Hello everybody and thanks in advance for any help; I am really trapped in this bad situation:

Exchange migration 2010 on prem to 2016 on prem (2 virtual machines on vmware) (130 mailboxes); I choose the coexistence method and everything was good in all the steps from ad prep to the last migration batches; I did some pilot mailboxes (around 30/40 and they went all good). I then made a last batch for all other mailboxes and then I realized later the night that the new server was stuck due to full data storage (so the vm was thinking it had free space but the data storage didn't).
result: new vm was like freezed, database corrupted, tried to eseutil but everything I tried gave me errors
temporary solution: after 2 days struggling and crying myself I decided with the company to move to office365 (fortunately there were veeam backups with all...

Exchange Hybrid mailbox availability and licensing stuff?

$

Hello,

I am trying to deploy exchange hybrid configuration. I have an on-premises Exchange 2016 server and a limited number of Office 365 licenses. I have questions about this (we can consider that MX record is pointing to Exchange Online Protection service, so incoming mail goes trough online service first, and that centralized mail flow was not enabled in hybrid configuration wizard):

1. Can hybrid configuration replicate certain mailboxes to both online and on-premises in order to enable fail over function?

2. For mailboxes that are located on exchange online, when on-premises server is not available, can they be used to send and receive mail then?

3. Are the O365 licenses needed only for users whose mailboxes are located on exchange online or for both on-premise and online in order to use their mailboxes in hybrid configuration?

Outlook - OST file recurring corruption

$

Outlook 2016 connecting to Office 365 E3, mailbox size ~55GB and Outlook reghack effected to allow for ~80GB OST.

Upon starting Outlook, error message displayed is "Errors have been detected in the file ," then prompt appears to locate (not fix) the OST file. Upon dismissing this prompt, Outlook shuts down.

Found that the OST file had been renamed to "____.ost.corrupt," a behavior I've not seen before. I renamed the file back to .OST (removing the corrupt), started Outlook, and same behavior - check on the file, and again it's been renamd with suffix ".corrupt"

Moving this file to a different location (to simulate deleting it) then starting Outlook, the same error persists - odd, because typically Outlook would create a NEW OST file in this scenario, right?

Confirmed user can log on to OWA (Office 365 webmail) without issue.

Only way to...

Hi all,

I am running the command:
Get-mailboxdatabase -status | ft, name, server, mounted.

At the moment I am seeing all my exchange servers.

How can i filter on a selected exchange server? I only want to list the active databases on a particular exchange server.

Why? I want to list the databases on a particular exchange server. Then i can decide if I want to perform a switchover to another exchange server.

Thank you.

Unable to disable in-place archive mailbox in exchange online in hybrid O365.

Hi everyone,

I am working on the In-Place archive or online-archive mailbox in O365, that we provide to end-users to free up space in their primary mailbox.

I got an issue, while disabling the In-Place archive mailbox, I tried disable-remote mailbox from on-premises because we have hybrid O365, but archive mailbox not get disconnected from primary mailbox even after running the sync few times from AAD connect.

I tried to disconnect in exchange online itself by ignoring hold switch, but it gives an error that it is synchronized, and that makes sense.

Actually what is happening here is attribute cloudmsexchangearchivestatus getting written on on-prem AD from AAD, even I am disabling msexcharchivestatus in on-prem AD, it is not overwriting that attribute in exchange online.

Can anyone please let me know the way to disable the archive mailbox,...

Office 365 tentant to tentant migration via HCW - Possible?

Hi all,

Looking for some advise on this one. Looking to migrate around 100 users from a child company (company A) to a parent company (Company B) . Both companies are in 365 in hybrid, both running an on-prem exchange for management and AD Connect. Assuming we can sort the licencing out and get that migrated, is the following possible

  1. Move company A users back on-prem using exchange migration tool
  2. Disconnect company A's AD ConnectSetup multi forest AD connect so that Company A syncs with Company B's tenant as per https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/hybrid/plan-connect-topologiesRemove
  3. Remove Company A's hybrid configuration and old mail flow connectors
  4. Re-run HCW and setup a hybrid connection to Company Bs tenant
  5. Sort out Domains/DNS/Connectors/Mail Flow and migrate users to Company B via exchange migration...

2010/2016 Exchange Coexistence issue with OWA

$

Hi,

I hope someone can help?

I have set up a couple of new servers to run Exchange 2016 and everything is going to plan apart from OWA.

See below a break down of the issues I am having with users who are migrated to 2016 and those that are still on 2010.

All 2016 users have a modified hosts file to point to the correct server, everyone else goes from 2010 as standard.

  • User A on Exchange 2016 logs in to 2016 OWA successfully
  • User A on Exchange 2016 logs in to 2010 OWA and gets: Server Error in '/owa' Application.(see screenshot)
  • User A on Exchange 2016 logs in to 2010 ECP successfully
  • User B on Exchange 2010 logs in to 2016 OWA and gets: Something went wrong
  • User B on Exchange 2010 logs in to 2010 OWA successfully
  • User B on Exchange 2010 logs in to 2016 ECP successfully

Exchange 2016 receive connectors - need to create them in pairs?

Hello!

I'm in the process of a migration from on-prem Exchange 2010 to on-prem Exchange 2016. On the 2010 server I had created a custom SMTP receive connector that needs to be migrated to the 2016 server. It was configured for a specific Remote IP range and to enforce mutual auth TLS. If remote servers send to this connector from that IP range and they cannot establish a mutually-authenticated TLS session, it should drop the connection attempt. It should NOT fall back to insecure delivery.

I'm still a bit confused by the expanded receive connector role types available in Exchange 2016 and how they are supposed to work. In 2010 it was simpler as there was only one type of role for receive connectors: HubTransport. I was able to determine in my research that in Exchange 2016, incoming internet email first goes to and is processed by a...

User is receiving email that they should not

Hello All,

I have a peculiar issue with one of my user's: he is receiving emails that are not addressed to him.

We have a company that sends us automated emails to a distribution group. This distribution group in turn contains other distribution groups. I have gone through all of the contacts in each group, digging down as far as I can go. There is no mention of the affected user in any of them. The user is not found in the To: field. I've also pulled up the affected user's group memberships (member of) and subsequently checked those groups for their group membership to see if something was nested, still nothing. Also, no transport rules are in place. I reached out to the company that sends the automated email and they said it must be on our end. I asked if the user is being BCC'd, they said no.

I am not very strong with Exchange, and I'm...

Exchange 2013 mailbox restore causes temporary mailbox warning on outlook

$

Had database corruption issues so I created a recovery database and moved all the mailboxes through mailbox restore request. This did not recover the 5 arbitration boxes, so I recreated those as well and assigned them the proper permissions. When users open their outlook, they are getting messages about using a temporary mailbox or their old data. The temporary mailbox option takes them into their restore mailbox and everything is there, but I know that isn't sustainable. Any way to possibly recover from everyone getting the error without recreated their Outlook profiles?

Edit: Exchange 2013 cu23 on Server 2012 R2 - Also checked to see if there were any migration, move or restore requests left on the server, all clear.

Unable to export PSTs from Exchange 2013

Hey guys,

So I'm trying to export some old email accounts from Exchange 2013 to PSTs, but I'm running into an "access is denied" error in the EAC GUI when attempting to do so. I'm trying to export to a Buffalo NAS that is an iSCSI target on my exchange server. I've given the Exchange Trusted Subsystem full control to the file share as well as all the subfolders, but the error is still being thrown up. I have also given the Mailbox Import Export Role to the Server Management role, which I have assigned to my domain admin account. The odd thing is that if I use the Exchange management shell and run the New-MailboxExportRequest command with the specified user and UNC path, nothing happens, it just shows ">>" and nothing happens unless I Crtl-C out of it. Any idea of what could be causing this?

Role-based Access to manage recipient email addreses

$

We're completing a migration from Exchange 2010 to 2016 (on-prem).

With the management of Exchange 2016 being now (other than the EMS) primarily browser-based, I'm hoping I can do something I've wanted to do for a while - allow my assistant to manage recipient email addresses. That, and ONLY that.

Any time a user needs an additional special-use email address, or any time we're trying to re-assign a custom email address from one user to another, my assistant has to escalate it to me. Likewise if we need to manage the email addresses of mail-enabled public folders. Maybe it was possible to delegate that ability via the EMC on the Exchange 2010 box, but I never tried to open that particular can of worms.

I'm hoping that the combination of managing via the Exchange Admin Center plus the role-based access model can allow me to delegate to him...
