Exchange 2013, Unable to create new mailboxes

   hello all

i have exchange server 2013 I am unable any more  to create any new mailboxes on my Exchange 2013 server.

the messages error :

Unable to generate the e-mail address. Unable to load address module 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Mailbox\address\SMTP\AMD64\inproxy.dll' for address type 'SMTP'. Additional message: 'The specified module could not be found'.
please help me .

healthmailbox issues - need to fix prior to Hybrid configuration with 365

still working on setting up hybrid configuration with 365.

stuck now on an error which lead me down this rabbit hole.

on my exchange 2013 servers, it appears one of my healthmailboxes is has been corrupted and is in inconsistent state.

I also see multiple healthboxes say the are invalid and cannot be updated when I try to tun get-emailaddresspolicy|update-emailaddresspolicy, looks like i have over 12 healthmailboxes

also see errors for couple of versions of OAB (3a and 4) and offline address book - first administrative group.

I assume these are leftover issues from past migrations, as over the years we have moved from Exchange 2000, to 2003, then 2013.

first step - to resolve issue with healthmailboxes, can I just recreate them by deleting the healthmailboxes and restarting the health manager service?

any repercussions for doing that?

Microsoft RMS Templates Keep Disappearing on Encryption

So this is a weird one... We recently moved to O365 email encryption solution to try to save some money as it comes with our E3 plan. It seems like Microsoft was going through some encryption changes, deprecating some version of the encryption system and following up with new systems.

I followed the steps to enable the new version but now about every month the RMS disables itself and when I select the dropdown RMS template in EAC Rules to Encrypt, all my template rules disappear and I have to go into the IRM through PowerShell, get the IRM Config, confirm it's disabled itself & then re-enable the templates.

The only way I have any knowledge that it disables is I have an co-worker saying that they can't send encrypted messages, they get a bounce back saying the message couldn't be sent.

I have contacted Microsoft support several times but...

Email name showing up with different name Outlook 365 - Resolved

I have a user whose name shows up as Human Resources Department Team when he sends an email out. I cannot seem to find where this is coming from or how to correct it. Any ideas?

In the image below, it should say the employee's name. The image placeholder has his initials correct.

deleting old OAB

get-emailaddresspolicy|update-emailaddresspolicy returns errors for the objects listed below, but get-offlineaddressbook displays only one address book, non of those listed below.

so I assume it is safe to just delete the ones below?

Exchange 2016 Room resource calendar permissions

We've just integrated a room display and scheduling service with our Exchange 2016 server. Users are on Outlook 2010. For one room's calendar, I've been asked to configure permissions so that everyone can see free/busy, everyone can create edit and delete only their own items, and no-one can see any details of any other user's items.

I gave myself admin rights to the resource so I can edit calendar permissions in outlook, and tried giving free/busy as default, then on a user level I gave custom Read free/busy, Write create items, write edit own, delete own, and folder visible.

When logging in as that test user, I was only able to see free/busy, and not able to create a new appointment, I was only able to create an appoint request.

Is this configuration even possible?
Thanks!

Alternate names/nicknames in Outlook GAL

There is a guy at my work who is named Robert but some contacts know him Bob as He wants someone to be able to type in either into the 'To:' field and be able to use check name to find his one email address bob@company.com.

Maybe im missing something obvious but I'm having trouble finding a solution. If a user changes their GAL contact with info it doesn't sync to the exchange server and update the GAL for all users. I've tried editing his mailboxnickname attribute in AD, tried changing his description in AD in hopes that the address book might regonize it. I even deleted my ost file and rebuilt my mailbox after dirsyncing o365 and on prem AD and i didn't see it

I also don't think the proxyaddress/alias would work either right? Because that's more about the email address itself rather than the person's name in the Outlook address book....

Attachment stripping

Hi Experts

One of my user has received an attachment which is in pdf format(lets says file1.pdf) on email gateway. i can see that attachment is delivered from email gateway. On users mailbox the attachment is stripped and it is with someother name abc txt.txt
when i open the abc txt.txt file i can see the below information. I believe the attachment might have been stripped on edge server,
which logs do i need to check for the attachment stripping on edge server. how can i confirm edge has stripped the attachment.

Malware was detected in one or more attachments included with this email message.
Action: All attachments have been deleted.

NTLM auth fails - outlook 2013 front, local exchange 2013 backend

Hi everyone! I have a real doozy on my hands. I help manage a small office (4 users). Server environment is Server2012r2 Hyper-V host, with a DC and an exchange server, running exchange 2013 SP1. This has been running smoothly since 2015 when I performed a migration from SBS 2003.

Just the other day, 3-12 i believe, I have two users (W10) that quit being able to connect to exchange.

If i go to control panel -mail-email and force the profile to connect to Outlook Anywhere using Basic. The user can connect. I suspect that it may be a windows update. But the two computers do not show that they have the same update installed. *Removed the update installed the day the issue began. It did not resolve the issue.*

When a fresh profile is set up exchange will check the first two boxes then hang and error out trying to resolve the third.

Setup Auto Discovery In Exchange 2010

Can i get some help setting up Autodiscovery in my exchange 2010 box, the new office 2016.2019 does not like exchange 2010 setup with msstd setting anymore. the exchnage server is its own dns server where should i add the auto discovery setting?

owa loging in but wornt load users mail box.

Help OWA 2010 will log users in but it wont display the mail box, i have tried restarting the iis, and editing the bindings to none and the then selecting the certificate again. to no avail

editing default address policy as it is 2003 version and I am on 2013

still working on hybrid wizard to move exchange 2013 to 365.

latest stopping point is that my default address policy version is 6.5.65.00.0, which is 2003

so googlefu tells me I need to use adsiedit to clear MsExchMailboxManagerFolderSettings

and then on msExchPolicyOptionList to clear the string below, but leave the 0xfc string.

only I do not see 0xfc string?

0xec 0x13 0x68 0x3b 0x89 0xce 0xba 0x42 0x94 0x42 0xd8 0x7d 0x4a 0xa3 0x0d 0xbc

does it mean the 0xec string instead, or am I missing something, looking in wrong place?

I'm really nervous about editing my default address policy.

here is link I am using

Exchange 2010 msstd settings not working

This morning the exchange 2010 box at my work started going crazy, first OWA was not working turns out the forms based authentication was not running, server had rebotted the night before due to a power outage, got that working, now users that were connecting using msstd setting can no longer connect. I have restarted the IIs service and nothing happens.

dictionary attacks

I have an exchange server, 2013, that gets listed in at spamrl.com about once a month as a source of dictionary attacks.

I can't figure this out, exchange is fully patched, firewall is a watchguard M200 with full suite. I have geo blocked pretty much everything, I have smtp rules that only allow the exchange to send out email.

I can't figure out if we are being blasted by someone on the outside or if we are blasting out something. We did have a brute force breach about a year ago but I blocked all outside access since then.

Any thoughts?

thanks,

How get Outlook working again after accidental remote wipe of phone?

I ran a script to do a remote wipe of company email on a stolen phone. Unfortunately, I made a mistake running the script and it started remote wiping all phones (I didn't write the script so I misunderstood how it worked). I aborted the script so it only wiped 17 phones. The problem is, how do I get the company Outlook accounts working again on the phones that were wiped by mistake? I got it working on mine by just removing and reinstalling Outlook and rebooting. But I tried that on another phone and it didn't work. Their Inbox just keeps showing empty. And for some users, including that one, I keep getting repeated automated emails about the phone having been wiped. I cannot find anything on Google about how to get mail working again after remote wiping. Our email is on Office 365.

Exchange 2010 'ripped' out and moved to O365, want to set up AADConnect correct

Working with a customer that had their Exchange 2010 server fail around 3-4 years ago, instead of fixing it, they just moved all the mail data to O365 and exported PST/OST and imported into O365. Exchange 2010 was never removed so there are Exchange attributes associated with all the users that existed at the time in AD. Any new users since the 'incident' have been set up in AD, and set up in O365, have different passwords, and not Exchange attributes in AD - not even email address.

Now they want to set up AADSync so AD passwords are used in O365. Tried it with a single OU with a few users, and while that technically works, it's a mess to manage with having to do ADSIedit for email addresses etc. Trying to figure out the best way to get them to a supported set up.

Someone mentioned installing Exchange 2010 in DR mode, uninstalling...

A MSP failed to renew SSL for exchange

So a IT support company/MSP did not renew an ms exchange ssl certificate till 2 days after it expired for one of their clients email servers. Has anyone ever heard of a msp doing such a thing or think this is even remotely acceptable?

Hybrid Exchange - User Setup

Hi All,

I'm reviewing the process of creating DirSync'd User/Mailboxes / making sure the process we are following is current/correct - I am no Exchange/O365 Expert.. This subject/area of IT has fallen on my lap/radar.

Environment: AD / Azure AD Connect / O365. We recently decommissionedour on-prem-exchange and now create mailboxes fully in the cloud (online-exchange).

From what I can see the process is:

  1. Create AD User Object & populate
  2. Wait/force sync up to create an instance of the user in O365
  3. Slap a license on/wait for mailbox to be created.
  4. The Mailbox & AD object are tied together (DirSync'd)

Question 1: In point 1 should we be manually adding the SMTP/smtp'sin the 'proxyaddresses' attribute within AD? And if so does the @domain.mail.onmicrosoft.com need to be added, at all? Can someone briefly explain the importance of this address?...

Autodiscover on Exchange 2010 issues

We have an on-premise Exchange 2010 server. I've never really had anyone that needed to connect via Outlook from outside our network, however my CEO is setting up a home office and would like to be able to connect in like she does in her office at work. I've learned I don't have Autodiscover setup correctly. When I try to add our work account to Outlook 2016 from outside our network I enter in .@DOMAIN.COM and a window that looks like I'm trying to login to a Microsoft account will pop up. I'm not sure why it's doing that. Our DOMAIN.COM is not an Office 365 account.

Office 365 Dynamic Distribution Group RecipientFilter Wild Cards

We are in the process of migrating to Office 365 from Exchange 2010. On my on premise environment, I have created Dynamic Distribution Groups based on the Notes/Info attribute.

Note Attribute looks like this “|A1|A2|A3|A4|C2|C3|C4|C5|”

To filter the recipients I did a:

Set-DynamicDistributionGroup "DynamicGroupName" -RecipientFilter {((notes -like "*A2*"))}

This works with on premise but not in Office 365. I get a "Wildcards cannot be used as the first character" error

-RecipientFilter

*In cloud-based environments, you can't use a wildcard as the first character. For example, Sales* is allowed, but *Sales isn't allowed.

*In on-premises Exchange, wildcards are valid only as the first or last character. For example, Sales* or *Sales are allowed, but Sa*les isn't allowed.

I tried this in Office 365 but no results
