Public Folder vs Shared Calendar (Exchange 2013)

I have a dilemma here.

We have been using Public folders for years now, for a Vacation Calendar and for Board Room reservations.

We started using IBM MaaS360 a year ago to provide a more secure form of email on our phones, but the dilemma we ran into is you cannot add a "Public Folder" calendar to MaaS360, as it needs to be a "Delegate Calendar".

Because of this, I created "Shared Calendars" in Exchange which come with their own email address, etc and was then able to add them into MaaS360.

with this, we no longer had a reason for our CEO or others to need their email through their native mail app.

The issue we recently came across is people are unable to view the details of the Vacation calendar unless they are grated "Full Access" to the calendar as Exchange 2013 doesn't allow you specify or adjust permissions other than "Full" or not.

Unable to Uninstall Exchange Server 2016 Due to MpsSvc Access Denied Error

I am unable to uninstall Exchange Server 2016 on a Windows 10 v1709 computer. Running setup.exe /mode:uninstall, I receive the following error during the prerequisites check:

How do I edit "Custom Attribute 1-15" in EAC to export data as .csv?

I'm trying to export the details of Distribution Groups from EAC to a .csv.  When I click on "Export Data to a CSV file", I'm given a few selections (Display Name, Group Type, etc.) and Custom Attribute 1-15.

I would like to change those attribute to Owners & members, but I don't see how I can change them.  Do these attributes have to be changes through Exchange Management Shell?  If so, how do I apply them across all Distribution Groups?

Change of Subject

Hi experts

one of our application sends emails to users. when the users receive the mail they see that subject line gets modified as underscore gets removed. from the application it sends as Subject _XYZ when it reaches users mailboxes it is received as XYZ. Experts guide me to troubleshoot.

Shared mailboxes

Situation: User Account/email address was set up so that a department can respond to certain requests (in this case graffiti). This account was created some time ago (2012) and was setup as a user account that certain people would log in to check the reports. Now there is a need for more people to access this account and no one knows the password. I know I can just reset the password but I am looking for a better solution.

The person in charge has requested making it a distribution group (because they want to keep the same established email address). I know that since it is a user account with its own mailbox this cant be done (or can it?). after doing some research it seems as if a shared mailbox is the way to go for what they are trying to achieve because they do want to added users to be able to respond.

Outlook stops receiving email until it is restarted - Exchange 2010

We have a mix of Office 2016 and 2013 and an on premises Exchange Server 2010 SP3 Update Rollup 21. In the last couple of weeks I've had some users mention that there Outlook will stop receiving emails randomly. Outlook says it is connected to Microsoft Exchange and they can still send email but will not receive. Send/receive has two tasks that run and one finishes but the other hangs and eventually fails. The same users have a mobile phone that will keep receiving email but Outlook will not. If the users close and re-open Outlook, a big dump of email comes in. The users will then report the problem again either the next day or a couple of days later. This is for internal and external mail coming in.

Needless to say the users are getting pretty frustrated not receiving email and having to close and open Outlook just to see if anything...

iPhone Exchange Account working after password reset

Hi Everyone,

Users get prompted to change their network password every 60 or 90 days. However, after changing the password on their PC, and verifying the new password is working; windows, vpn, etc. Their iPhones still keep getting email on their phones.

I tried turning off Active Sync and turning it back on but it still worked with the same old password.

Some people said rebooting the Exchange server prompted the iPhones for new password but i dont necessarily want to do that. Maybe there's a service I can restart that will prompt the iPhone?

Internal mails in sent folder but not received or seen in exchange mail flow

Users in my org have a problem from time to time where messages go into sent folder but are not actually received by users sent to and when I check mail flow there is no trace of those mails being sent anywhere, they do not even appear in OWA sent folder.

Recently I applied KB to fix my URI to be the same as external to fix problems with non wild certificate. It worked great and apart from this I don't seem to have any problems. I tried checking both internal and external ip's for autodiscover and URL and they both return proper ip addresses. Did anyone seen a similar problem, or has any idea of what I could do to fix it?

Exchange 2016 messages to Exchange 2010

Hello. I have a situation and I hope I will receive the needed answer.

I migrate the Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2016 on test environment. At this moment I am able to:

Send message from Exchange 2010 mailboxes to Exchange 2010 mailboxes

Send message from Exchange 2010 mailboxes to Exchange 2016 mailboxes

Send message from Exchange 2016 mailboxes to Exchange 2016 mailboxes

I am not able to send messages from Exchange 2016 mailboxes to Exchange 2010 mailboxes.

Exchange 2010 environment:
2 Mailbox Servers in a DAG and 2 CAS and Hub Transport in NLB. On Exchange 2010 I have 2 receive connectors on each hub server

Deleting Emails Over X Years with Powershell

Hi, I have tried to use the retention policies in Exchange 2010 but found them to not work as expected.

We need to make sure that peoples mailboxes only contain emails which are less than 7 years old.

I thought maybe the best way to do this could be through Powershell and a Scheduled task.

Does anybody else do this and do you have an example of the script you could share?

Mitel Voicemail Emails won't move to specific folder

Hey Everyone,

So i am currently running into an issue where I work, we use a Mitel VoIP system, we are slowly trying to implement Advanced UM to users throughout the company.  We have it set-up so when a user gets a voicemail they also get an email with an attached .wav file of the voicemail.  The problem I am running into is I can't get the email to automatically move to a specified folder no matter the rules I set.  However, if I set up a rule and manually run it, it will move the email to the desired folder.  Am I missing something on getting this email to automatically move to the desired folder?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Delay - receiving email from external Gmail users

Hi,

our domain is receiving email from Gmail users.... but it's taking quite some time to receive it.

It often takes a number of hours. 

Can you advise where I should start trouble shooting?

I've looked at headers of some of the mails, but it only shows from when it reaches our domain.

We use Exchange 2010, with Outlook 2010 clients, and we use Trustwave for content filtering.

We did get blacklisted in November 2017 for a couple of hours. But nothing since.

Outbound email from our domain to Gmail is fine; it delivers in 10-15 seconds when I've tested it.

Local move request for remote user mailbox.

Exchange 2010. After I migrate the user mailbox to O365 it turned to remote user mailbox. Is there anyway I can do a local move request? We are planning to remove the old physical mailbox server and I need to move all remote user mailbox to our VM.

Modify Exchange Full Permission Attributes

Good morning people,

My intern just gave me a huge headache. In the midst of re-configuring a few of our shared mailboxes, we found out that our users having Full permissions to those shared mailboxes could go into their inbox folder property and add anyone else in the permissions tab.

What I need is to keep the same feature as the full access permission provides to those users, but removing their rights to change folder permissions from within the Inbox. I believe there was a way to set every single attributes for a given user on the shared inboxes but I can't find the info on how to properly do it anywhere. Is there such a thing as modifying attributes for users to retain full access permission on a shared inbox, but removing them the right to modify folder permissions.

Adding an Exchange Mailbox server to our Exchange 2013 Oganization

We run a single server Exchange 2013 setup as a VM on Hyper-V. We have 3 mailbox DBs that all live on a single VHD. Two are 800gb and one is 300gb.

We are having disk IO issues on that DB volume. Disk queue length is routinely at 6-8 and spikes even higher sometimes.

CPU and RAM performance is fine on this server, so I think this is an I/O issue. CPU hovers around 35% and weare normally only using about 40% of RAM on the VM.

I don'tthink splitting the DBs more will help if I'm leaving them on the same server.

I want to add an additional Exchange 2013 server with only the mailbox role on it. But I had two questions:

1. Can you add an additional mailbox role without doing a DAG? (I'm 99% sure this is yes but want to confirm)

2. We run the Standard version of Exchange. I know you can only have 5 databases on Standard. Is this a per SERVER count...

Exchange 2016 Logs not truncating

We have one Exchange server, not a DAG. It has only one database. We use Altaro backup on the server and it is not truncating logs. 

I have tested out Windows Server backup on the Host server and the Exchange server and both methods truncate logs. 

Support have confirmed Altaro should utilize VSS the same way as WSB, but it is not working. They are stumped as their knowledge of Exchange is minimum. 

I set the Exchange VSS writer logging to HIGH on the server, but my ESE logs still don't contain 224 or 225 when running a backup. Does anyone know of any other logging I can enable to aid in troubleshooting? Or if there is somewhere else i should be looking other than event logs for the correct logs?

Office 365 Post Migration questions

We've migrated from Exchange 2010 to Office 365 by using the third party tool MigrationWiz. The tool worked wonderfully but now we're trying to figure out the best way to remove the on-premise Exchange 2010 server. We're currently running AAD Connect to sync users/passwords with the msExchMailboxGuid attribute filtered. Now that we're completely moved to Office 365 what is the best way to decommission the on-prem Exchange server without causing issues while still using AAD Connect? My primary worry now is AAD Connect updating or doing something strange and losing the filter for msExchMailboxGuid and overwriting the Office 365 side with that attribute.

Microsoft outlook

I work in a company and im the IT guy because the previous guy quit. There is multiple people on different computers using microsoft outlook connected to the same email address. Recently I was advised to clean out the mailbox because it was getting full. I deleted the emails on my computer but the mailbox is still showing that it is full. The accounts are connected with microsoft exchange. My question is how can i delete items so that it sinks up with mailbox and shows that they are deleted on multiple accounts.
