Weird: Exch 2010 User can't be found (5.1.1) by a few other users in same domain

Weird one here. Had a user Tiffany@domain.com who has left for extended leave, and a fellow has taken over her duties. Meanwhile their office is also switching over to role-based email addresses, so I changed the user name from Tiffany Pink to Joe Smith, and the email address from tiffany@domain.com to nothingmanager@domain.com.

I tested sending to and from the newly updated account using my own personal email, worked fine. Then a few days later I got an email from Joe saying that 1 employee in accounting and 1 employee in another department can't email him, and the bounce message is:

#550 5.1.1 RESOLVER.ADR.ExRecipNotFound;

Which suggests the user doesn't exist, but me and everyone else can email him. I cleaned the autocomplete cache on the accounting computer but still same message. The Exchange troubleshooting assistant thinks...

Citrix Outlook Issue After Exchange MIgration

We recently started migrating mailboxes from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013. We are doing a staggered migration so both servers EX01/EX02 (2007/2013) are up and running.

If I login to our Citrix server the mail profile fails to connect. I'll get message like this. It just keeps prompting me for my username/password which i have tried in domain\username format.

I tried deleting the mail profile from the Mail commandlet and still no luck.

The Citrix server is Windows 2003 (Citrix Presentation Server ) and runs Outlook 2010. I tested with an existing EX07 account which still works and had another Ex13 account test and gets errors as well.

Missing folders from OST

A user is saying that folders are missing from an OST after I added it to outlook data files. Is there any way I can go back or see where those folders went?

Forward, delete rule in OWA. Exchange 2010

$

Created a rule that forwards a message if it comes from a

certain recipient and then moves that message to the trash.

Problem 1:

It moves the item to the deleted items but does not forward it, although the rule to forward is is coming first in line.

Problem 2: can't empty the deleted items

What i can find it is only possible to:

  1. Auto/empty trash on client
  2. applications
  3. Auto-empty trash on exiting OWA

Both options are, in my situation, not possible.

Is there a way to purge that trash folder from the Exchange side

(only for that user mailbox).

Granting Send as Permission for PF to external vendor

Hey there, we have interesting problem to solve.

The first request was to have any email that goes to aspecificinternal email addressto automatically forwarded and copied to an external email address that belongs to a vendor that we work with.

I accomplished this by creating a Public Folder and then setting a transport rule. It worksgreat.

The next request was to make it so that the external vendor could reply as the originating email address.

Example:

Email gets sent to example@company1.com and then example@company2.com receives it. example@company2.com would like 'Send As' permission for example@company1.com.

Yes, I could set them up with an individual mailbox and they could just log into that, but I'm guessing they must have their own distribution group or Public Folder set up on their own end.

What do you recommend that I do in order to...

How do I set default Exchange DB and Log locations?

I'm in the middle of migrating to Exchange 2013 and I'm making a LOT of new database locations.  Is there a way to change my default DB and Log locations.  Right now it pops up pointing to:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Mailbox\user\user.edb

and

C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Mailbox\user

Would love it if it came up as:

F:\ExchangeDBs\user\user.edb

and

F:\ExchangeLogs\user

Thanks!

Exchange 2010 has intermittently been slow....

this week.  Began on Wednesday.  No big changes to the network although my superior is doing some (pretty large) file migrations.  Only affecting a few users, not necessarily everyone (that I know of).  Internal users and remote users are being affected.  Memory is not an issue on the server.  Checked the firewall and it seems that our bandwidth is near maxing every once in while.

Reaching out to the awesome Spiceworks community to see if there is something else I should check, do, look for, etc.  Thanks in advance!

Setting up Exchange 2013 Failover

Did a search didn't really find an answer.

We are setting up a site to site failover for reliability. We currently have a DAG running between sites to protect us from DB corruption. However, the next step we are looking at is roughly 99.5% uptime for email, so let me describe our setup, and please suggest best of course of action to accomplish this.

Our exchange environment has 4 active databases. Roughly 350 Mailboxes

Site one (Primary Datacenter): One multirole Exchange 2013 server, ritualized. One NIC (Looking to make this two for DAG replication network). We have a barracuda that receives all external emails first, so our MX records point to that and then our exchange server. Part of the DAG

Site two (Failover center): One multirole Exchange 2013 server (Physical Machine), Two NICs, and part of the DAG.

Now I have read that I need a...

Exchange 2010 certs about to expire, no services listed - renew?

$

Hey everyone - It has been 5 years since our Exchange 2010 install, so the certs that each server generates during setup are about to expire.  I renewed the CAS role certs (for smtp, etc) through the EMC but on the mailbox servers the certs have no services assigned to them, and as such can't be renewed.

I couldn't find much on prof. google about these certs.  Since there's no services assigned to them I assume I can just let them expire and it won't have any impact?  Am I dead wrong?

Thanks as always

Letting a CA-issued cert for Exch 2007 expire

I don't know for how much longer we're going to be on our Exchange server because we may favour the move to Exchange online.  But I'm up against a UCC certificate renewal for Exchange.

If I recall correctly, if I let the cert expire/lapse, my Outlook Anywhere clients will complain and not get email.  Can anyone correct this statement?  If they can get their email even with an expired cert, does anyone know if ActiveSync clients like Android, iOS, and BlackBerry devices will continue to sync mail/calendar/contacts?

The essential question is, do I need to shell out the cash for another year?

Outlook 2010 clients frequently disconnecting from Exchange 2010

$

Hey everyone,

About a week ago, our offsite and off-domain clients running Outlook 2010 via RPC over HTTP started frequently disconnecting from Exchange 2010. This happens several times per minute and yields the message "Connection to Microsoft Exchange has been lost" from the system tray. Event viewer shows event id 26 for every occurrence.

I'd noticed that a certificate on the Exchange server expired around the same time that this all started happening, but the certificate had been replaced prior to testing and troubleshooting, so it doesn't seem to have made a difference. This certificate bore both internal and external DNS names (which I don't think was necessary). Some of the external URLs were no longer in use and have since been changed in CAS. The new certificate, being a wildcard, covers all of the new external URLs.

OWA/Activesync fails after exchange sp2 failed install

While trying to do a Exchange 2010 SP2 install the install failed during the Host Transport final step - All services for Exchange were set to disabled so after searching what the status should be and restarting email hosts are back up and email is going through internally and externally but there are two issues:

Exchange management console fails to load with a kerbose authentication error

and

OWA and Activesync aren't running, getting a ton of 2280 event id's for IIS-W3SVC-WP errors tied to exppw.dll failed to load.

I have a distribution group which I removed and created a mailbox account with the same email address, however for whatever reason I cannot get the GAL in Outlook to update. Every time you enter the email address it continues to auto-complete to the distribution group even though it no longer exists.

This is on Exchange 2013 with Outlook 2013/2010

Exchange 2007 and Outlook error after removing local certificate

Hi,

I had just re-issued certificate for our Exchange 2007, since we had to remove exchange.domain.local certificate.
Replacing certificate went well, but now Outlook is coming up with the following error on local workstations:

I did some googling and found out that a few commands may fix the issue.
I wanted to check that with you before running commands to avoid messing up our Exchange:

Text
Set-ClientAccessServer -Identity Exchange -AutodiscoverServiceInternalUri https://mail.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml
Text
Set-WebServicesVirtualDirectory -Identity "Exchange\EWS (Default Web Site)" -InternalUrl https://mail.domain.com/ews/exchange.asmx
Text
Set-OABVirtualDirectory -Identity "Exchange\oab (Default Web Site)" -InternalUrl https://mail.domain.com/oab

And then recycle IIS Application Pool.

How to recover deleted mails in Powershell?

Hi Guys,

My company is using Office365 mail service.

A user accidentally delete all his "Send Items" and clean up in Delete Items...

So now what he can do is recover his mails one by one, but there are thousands of mails need to be recovered.

Can I do it via Powershell? Assume his mailbox name is "Dude".

One users messages do not get delivered with the following error message "This m

One of the users in our domain can receive emails but not send emails externally . When they send they get a notification that the message has been sent but the recipient never receives the email.

After checking her inbox I can see some messages that say

"This message hasn't been delivered yet. Delivery will continue to be attempted.

The server will keep trying to deliver this message for the next 1 days, 19 hours and 51 minutes. You'll be notified if the message can't be delivered by that time."

The other users on the domain appear to be untroubled by this issue.

I have tried:

-Creating a new outlook profile

-Disabling the local firewall

-removing the tick from the use outlook in cache mode tickbox

Any ideas out there?

Exchange 2013: Autodiscover etc.

$

Where do I begin...

Autodiscover doesn't work. I feel I've tried everything under the sun.

Where I'm at now however is that using 'DC01.DOMAIN.LOCAL' in the Outlook setup wizard, finds the user account.

I then get an error about not being able to connect to the MSX server.

It does pass all the Microsoft test connectivity wizards, OWA works internal/external, I can configure the email accounts on iOS etc. (external only).

If anyone is interested (and has a decent level of Exchange knowledge) in helping me, I'll be happy to provide more screenshots etc. just don't want to give away too much information.

Migrate the client access role from one server to another in exchange 2010 SP1

$

We have two exchange servers in two different AD sites. Both servers are running Exchange 2010 sp1. The servers are in a DAG to ensure high availability. The client access role is installed on server 1.

I need to do maintenance on server 1. Before I do, I will role the dbs over to server 2. I am a bit worried that server 1 might not come back up. If it doesn't I will need to move the client access role to server 2.

Is this an easy thing to do? If so, could anyone, provide me with a brief guide regarding how to do it?

Any help is greatly appreciated.
