Exchange 2003 and Activsync Configuration - FAILED

We have Exchange 2003 SP2. I followed Alan Hardisty’s “Exchange 2003 and Activsync Configuration” guide (http://alanhardisty.wordpress.com/2010/02/28/exchange-2003-and-activesync-configuration-and-troubleshooting ).

All seemed to go OK.

I ran the Microsoft Remote Connectivity Analyzer at https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com and got the following:

Connectivity Test Failed

The “Tell me more about this issue…” link takes you to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/0715cdea-acfa-4c0f-88da-16fde67ac3e6.aspx which says in part:

“This error typically occurs in an Exchange 2010 or Exchange 2007 environment where the target mailbox resides on an Exchange 2003 server and Basic Authentication is configured on the Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync virtual directory. The most common cause for this error is an incorrect username or password. If you are using Office 365, make sure that you log in by using your full User Principal Name (UPN). For example, log in by using the following: user@domain.com. If the login information is correct, we recommend that you use the following procedure to help resolve this issue.”

But we don’t have Exchange 2010 or 2007 servers. The TechNet post says to install the KB937031 hotfix, which we did, but this didn’t fix the problem.

I’ve tried the Connectivity Analyzer using both domain\username & user@domain, and both fail at this “OPTIONS” command.

Any insights would be much appreciated.
