We have an Exchange server with about 700 mailboxes (one server with all roles, Exchange 2010).
We have a Barracuda Message Archiver that is storing email long term, but is not made available for end-users.
We have a 1GB mailbox limit, because backing up the Exchange server every night takes quite a bit of time and we want our users to be smart about email.
Our issue now is supporting PST files. Over the years people have created about 160GB of them, and they're on my file server. Network locations are not supported, and some of the PST files are over 6GB in size. That said, we have never had any corruption issues. You're only supposed to store them locally, but then they don't get backed up.
We have no retention policy. One is being developed, but it will only address the Barracuda.
I guess my question is: What are you guys doing about PST files? What do you think I should do in my situation?
